fiogf49gjkf0d Aahar – the three-day regional exposition organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) under the ministry of commerce and held at EPIP Park, the KTPO Complex in Whitefield, Bengaluru, recently – showcased bakery and confectionery equipment, food technologies, novel value-added hospitality equipment and kitchen cleaning machines.
The exhibition highlighted the notable advances made in the Indian food processing industry. According to the organisers, it did not just attract business visitors, but also consumers and food researchers. J Guna Sekaran, deputy general manager, ITPO, said there was an overwhelming response to the event.
Best Foods Some of the interesting displays included that of the Delhi-based Best Foods Ltd, which is known for its basmati rice, which is available in three variants – organic, brown and premium – and is cholesterol-free, low in fat content and high on energy.
The company has now moved to leverage its expertise in basmati rice by preparing ready- to-eat meals with such accompaniments as sauces and pastes. With Bengaluru emerging as a hub for young working professionals, the company is keen to grab a share of the market here.
Deepak Srivastava, general manager, retail formats, Best Foods, said, “Although the products garnered much of the revenues from the north, Chennai has been indicating ample interest in our easy-to-use, heat-and-serve Madras Curry, which has an authentic taste and flavours.”
Best Foods, which has an in-house capability to develop and commercialise other sauces and dips for specific requirements, also showcased eggless mayonnaise, sweet Thai Chilli Dip and mint mayonnaise.
Best Foods was vying for a share in the ready-to-eat and heat-and-eat markets with ITC Foods' Kitchens of India, MTR and Maiya’s, among others.
“It also exports to the Middle-East where its combination of means, time-saving sauces and mellow mixtures of condiments with real Indian flavours were found to be ideal marinates,” Srivastava said.
Vivan Foods Established in 2008, the Haryana-based Vivan Foods, with its production plant at Rajasthan, displayed its range of vegetarian products in glass bottles, pack bottles and service packs of jams, honey, sauces and dressings.
The food service packs are displayed in multi-layer and high-barrier pouches, giving a shelf-life of four months at an ambient temperature.
According to the company, most of its products are well-accepted and already being used by leading institutions in the hotel, restaurant and catering (HORECA) sector, the sector of the food service industry that consists of establishments that prepare and serve the food and beverage segment.
