Aahar 2020 kicks off at Pragati Maidan; To cover food & allied sectors

The 2020 essay of Aahar, the premier B2B (business-to-business) event of the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), commenced at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, on Tuesday. One of the most awaited shows in Asia, it covers innovations and developments across all areas of the food and hospitality, supply chain, raw materials, processing, technologies, food safety and policy matters, packaging, filling and sealing, logistics track and trace, retailing and industry updates.
Inaugurating the event, L C Goyal, chairman and managing director, ITPO, said, “India has yet to realise its full potential exhibitions and conventions, and the future editions of specialised events such as Aahar would be organised with unprecedented size and stature after the completion of the International Exhibition and Convention Centre (IECC) at Pragati Maidan.”
He indicated that the event industry, which is worth about Rs 3 lakh crore, has a crucial role to achieve the target of a $5-trillion economy by the year 2024, as envisioned by India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Present on the occasion were Paban K Borthakur, chairman, APEDA; Rajesh Agrawal, executive director, ITPO; Dr S K Jindal, president, AIFPA; Amit Lohani, chairman, FIFI; Arvind Khanna, vice-president, HOTREMAI, and Rajeev Sachdeva, vice-president, ARCHII, participants and delegates from India and abroad.
Assuring better, transparent and accountable professional services to all the trade and industry by ITPO in future, Goyal complimented all the associates and stakeholders of the event, acknowledging the continued support of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Government of India and APEDA, along with other apex bodies, such as AIFPA, ARCHII, HOTREMAI, FHSAI and FIFI for the fair.
In his welcome speech, Agrawal highlighted the salient features of Aahar 2020, and affirmed that the next edition of Aahar would be organised on an enhanced scale as new exhibition halls of IECC with augmented exhibition space would be available.
He added that the fair was an ideal platform to launch a pro-farmer-based agri-policy to ensure value addition of their produce and providing direct linkages with the export activity, thereby becoming an integral part of the retail and supply chain globally. In the current edition of Aahar, over 35,000 business visitors are expected to attend the fair, apart from millions through online and social media verticals.
Highlighting the prospects of the food and hospitality industry, Jindal and Khanna also expressed their happiness over the enhanced participation response in Aahar 2020.
The event, which will conclude on March 7, 2020, has elicited the participation of over 750 leading companies. Overseas participation is from such countries as Hong Kong, Israel, Indonesia, Japan, Poland, Russia, Switzerland, the UK and the UAE. Major attractions include exclusive seminars on Research and Innovation Key to Future Growth of Food Processing in Hall 8 (auditorium). The All India Bread Manufacturers’ Association will host its annual general meeting in Hall 7 (lounge) on March 4, 2020.
The fair is one of the most awaited events for the top echelons of the hotel and hospitality industry, including chief executive officers, general managers, executive chefs, executive housekeepers, purchase managers, etc. Moreover, senior representatives from the catering industry and academic institutions and training hotel management professionals will also be present.
Aahar is open for the business visitors from 10am to 6pm daily. A registration fee of Rs 300 is chargeable from trade visitors. Visitors may park their vehicles at the Bhairon Road parking. Entry to the visitors is facilitated from Gate 1 (Bhairon Mandir side) and Gate 10 (Supreme Court Metro Station side) at Pragati Maidan. Entry tickets can be bought via the BookMyShow portal.
