He said, “India’s food ecosystem offers huge opportunities for investments with stimulating growth in the food and retail sector, favourable economic policies, and attractive fiscal incentives. I would like to compliment Government of India for taking pro-active measures and for the introduction of flagship schemes like Production Linked Incentives and PM Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises.”

“We are working on our processes and stringent quality control to amplify the reach of Indian food to the world,” said Raghav Jadli, president, All India Food Processors Association.

The inaugural session, was also attended by Dr Sudhanshu, Secretary, APEDA, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, John Kingsly, Managing Director, MPIDC, Government of Madhya Pradesh, concluded with a vote of thanks by Milind Dixit, managing director, Koelnmesse India.

Speaking on the occasion, Prahlad Singh Patel said, “India has emerged as the world's largest producer of spices, the world's largest processor of milk and pulses, the world's second-largest producer of cashew nuts, and consumer cereals, fruits, and vegetables. Food processing is a rapidly growing sector in India which offers vast opportunities for investment with stimulating growth in the food retail sector. The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) is promoting investment in the food industry in India by taking all necessary steps to promote the sector through favourable economic policies and attractive fiscal incentives. The government has approved 41 Mega Food Parks (MFPs) to be set up in the country under the Mega Food Park scheme and presently 22 Mega Food Parks are in operation.”

He further said, “Apart from the Rs 4600 crore, additional allocation of Rs 600 crore has been made till March 2026 under the PMKSY scheme. The ministry is also implementing two more flagship schemes: Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme to modernise and enhance the competitiveness of the food processing industry by manufacturing specific categories of food products which have high potential for growth in production and for a period of six years till 2026-27 by value addition."

Along with the exhibition, Annapoorna Anufood 2022 will provide a platform for panel discussions, round table discussions with industry stalwarts and drive 300+ Exhibitors from 10+ Countries to network with and source business.

To address the various opportunities and challenges the event will have specialised conferences led by industry associations like AIFPA, AFSTI & CASMB, Live Culinary; sessions by professional chefs; Product Launch & Demonstrations; Panel Discussions by Hospitality Purchasing Managers' Forum (HPMF).

Additionally, it will also have International pavilions from 7 countries – Australia, Brazil, Italy, Turkey, Indonesia, Peru and Poland and 8 State Partners - Karnataka, Odisha, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Goa, North East Region, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh.

The conference will highlight 10 Sectors covering the spectrum of the food & drink industry: Agri Foods, Fine Food, Dairy, Drinks, Coffee & Tea, Meat, Bread & Bakery, Organic, Halal, Sweet & Snacks.

Prabodh Halde, head regulatory Marico Ltd, and past president AFSTI, and chairperson of AIFPA Western region, said, “I think this is a fantastic event and we look forward to it every year for three big reasons because this is the biggest event, it is highly innovative and we get to network with a lot of people from all sectors of the food and beverage industry.”

Pritee Chaudhary, regional director, FSSAI, west region, said, “We have come up with new rules and regulations in the fields of nutraceuticals - Ayurveda Aahar because India needed to tag its Ayurveda Aahar on the global scale. The new tag gives a unified consolidated Ayurveda Aahar food products, as opposed to it being put under the umbrella of herbal or medicinal products. India is leading  globally in the food processing sector. There are a lot of exports from India to international markets. Not only raw material but processed food items as well.”

“India has a lot of potential with respect to our traditional exports which were fruits like mangoes, basmati rice, and other food products which are made from India’s indigenous produce. Post – Corona, this is a wonderful event to experience as it is diverse and magnificent. There is huge participation from both exhibitors and visitors, alike. Lots of innovation taking place in food processing and packaging sectors. Events like this can give a huge boost to the Indian economy,” added Chaudhary.

Ashwin Bhadri, CEO, Equinox Labs, said, "Annapoorna is a mega event for every company in the food and beverage sector. We have had the opportunity to learn and interact with key players in the food and beverage industry through the event over the years as it provides a networking platform. With manufacturers, distributors, retailers and chefs from all over the world participating in the event, sky is the limit for an industry aspiring to go global."

Mayank Lakhani, senior managing director, Nexdigm board member, Nexdigm Consulting  Limited (UAE), said, “This event has been taking place for the past 15 years. It is a great platform for B2B meetings, for domestic and international businesses. The only question that needs to be addressed is how to speed up the progress and success of this sector. One of the biggest challenges faced by the sector is supply chain, here we see a lot of start ups come into the light with trying to make products go from farm to fork. An important point to note is that consumer behaviour is changing, the focus is now on health, and food processing businesses have to adapt in order to have long term sustainability. Even though today was the first day, there was a huge footfall, it was a happy surprise because everyone is enthusiastic and ready for success.”
