Saudi Arabia’s leading food producer, Almarai, has taken a major step into the seafood sector through a strategic partnership with global food processing technology provider JBT Marel. This move marks a significant expansion of Almarai’s diversified protein portfolio and supports the company’s broader goals of boosting local production and contributing to national food security objectives.
Under the agreement formalised in January 2026, JBT Marel will supply three state-of-the-art fish processing lines to Almarai’s new facility at King Abdullah Economic City in Rabigh. Installation of the multimillion-euro systems is scheduled to begin in late 2026. The advanced processing equipment has been designed in collaboration with Almarai over the past three years and incorporates cutting-edge technologies to maximise product quality while minimising waste of raw materials and natural resources.
The new lines will be capable of handling a wide variety of species — including salmon, white fish and regional seafood — enabling Almarai to expand its product offerings with fresh, regionally produced seafood. By developing local processing capabilities, the company aims to reduce reliance on imports and support growth of the Kingdom’s domestic fishing industry.
The partnership emerged as part of broader strategic commitments announced by Almarai at the Saudi International Marine Exhibition and Conference, where the company signed multiple contracts worth over SAR 276 million to build industrial facilities and seafood production lines, reinforcing its investment into fisheries and aquaculture infrastructure.
Almarai’s entry into the seafood business aligns with Saudi Vision 2030 priorities to strengthen food self-sufficiency, diversify economic activities, and adopt advanced technologies across key sectors. Through this collaboration with JBT Marel, the company is poised to establish itself as a major player in the region’s seafood value chain while leveraging global expertise in food processing innovation.
