Andhra Pradesh boosts intensive aquaculture with ?2,398.72 Crore investment under PMMSY

The Government of India has approved a ?2,398.72 crore investment for the development of fisheries and aquaculture in Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). This includes a ?559.10 crore central share to support intensive aquaculture projects in ponds and tanks.
Between 2020-21 and 2024-25, a total of 197 units have been sanctioned in Andhra Pradesh for biofloc pond culture (freshwater & brackish water) and Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS), with an allocated cost of ?63.97 crore. So far, the Centre has released ?482.55 crore between 2020-21 and 2023-24, while ?28.10 lakh has been utilized from the ?38 crore sanctioned for 2024-25.
To further support the sector, the Andhra Pradesh government has been supplying concessional power at ?1.50 per unit to aquaculture farms of up to 10 acres in notified aqua zones, while other farms receive power at ?3.86 per unit. A massive ?4,095.17 crore has been provided as subsidies for concessional power to 68,134 aqua service connections from 2018 to 2025.
These initiatives aim to enhance fish production, promote sustainable aquaculture practices, and improve the livelihoods of fish farmers in Andhra Pradesh, reinforcing its status as a leading hub for fisheries and aquaculture in India.
