In the wake of upcoming Maha Kumbh to be held in Prayagraj from January 13 onwards, the district administration, in collaboration with Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Uttar Pradesh Food Safety Department, has conducted training of 2,100 street food vendors of the city.
The training programme covered many essential topics including personal hygiene, food management, cooking methods and waste management.
District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandhad said, "Maha Kumbh is being organised in Prayagraj from January 13, 2025, to February 26, 2025. Crores of people are expected to come to the city in this holy event. In such a situation, it is necessary for the street food vendors of the city to be trained and alert from the point of view of food safety. In view of this, this training programme is an important step towards strengthening food safety during Maha Kumbh."
According to the district administration, the participants were also given information about the Food Safety and Standards Act focussing on guidelines prescribed in Schedule 4 regarding the licence and registration of food businesses.
Hygiene kits were also distributed to street food vendors during the training, which included aprons, gloves, head-gear and street food vendors manual.
According to FSSAI, training street food vendors is an important step to ensure food safety. In this context, FSSAI has set a target of training 25 lakh food vendors in three years (from 2023 to 2026). In this sequence, street food vendors are being trained in every major city of the country.
