Barry Callebaut unveils multi-year investment plan for flagship Belgian facilities
Wednesday, 11 February, 2026, 16 : 00 PM [IST]
Zurich, Switzerland
Barry Callebaut, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality chocolate and cocoa products, has announced a major multi-year investment program aimed at modernising and expanding its key production sites in Wieze and Halle, Belgium. The initiative is designed to strengthen the company’s manufacturing footprint and meet growing global demand for premium chocolate solutions.

The investment focus centers on the Wieze facility—the world’s largest chocolate factory—and the site in Halle, which is specialized in high-complexity chocolate products. The funding will be directed toward state-of-the-art production equipment, the digitalisation of manufacturing processes, and the implementation of advanced energy-efficient technologies. By upgrading these core hubs, Barry Callebaut aims to enhance its operational agility and ensure the highest standards of food safety and quality for its global customer base, which includes food manufacturers, artisans, and professional chocolatiers.

Sustainability is a cornerstone of the expansion plan. The upgrades will integrate innovative solutions to reduce the carbon footprint and water consumption of both facilities, aligning with the company’s "Forever Chocolate" commitment to become carbon and forest positive by 2025. This focus on green manufacturing ensures that the increased production capacity does not come at an environmental cost, catering to the rising consumer demand for ethically produced treats.

Peter Feld, CEO of Barry Callebaut, emphasised that these investments are vital to maintaining the company’s competitive edge in the heart of the "home of chocolate." He noted that Belgium remains a critical strategic hub for the group, combining centuries of artisanal heritage with cutting-edge industrial expertise.

As the global chocolate market continues to evolve toward more specialised and sustainable offerings, this investment secures Barry Callebaut’s ability to scale its innovation. The modernization of the Wieze and Halle plants is expected to be completed in phases over the next several years, reinforcing Belgium's status as a premier global center for chocolate excellence.
