Budget - Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana to cover 100 dists, Mission on Pulses to focus on Tur, Urad, Masoor

Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Finance Minister, presented the annual Budget for the fiscal 2025-26 aiming at accelerating growth, securing inclusive development, invigorating private sector investments, and enhancing spending power of India’s rising middle class.
Among other things, Sitharaman announced Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana for developing Agri Districts Programme.
The programme will cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity and below-average credit parameters. It aims to enhance agricultural productivity, adopt crop diversification and sustainable agriculture practices, augment post-harvest storage at the panchayat and block level, improve irrigation facilities, and facilitate availability of long-term and short-term credit.
The Government also announced launch of a 6-year “Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses” with a special focus on Tur, Urad and Masoor.
Further, the Budget announced, comprehensive programme to promote production, efficient supplies and processing for vegetables & fruits.
Among other announcements of the Budget include Makhana Board in Bihar, and National Mission on High Yielding Seeds.
For MSMEs limits for classification of all MSMEs will be enhanced to 2.5 and 2 times respectively.
To support the food processing sector, Sitharaman proposed, "In line with our commitment towards ‘Purvodaya’, we will establish a National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management in Bihar. The institute will provide a strong fillip to food processing activities in the entire Eastern region. This will result in enhanced income for the farmers through value addition to their produce, and skilling, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities for the youth."
