The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Limited (CAMPCO) Ltd., will be laying the foundation stone for its new Vittal branch premises near Sri Panchalingeshwara Temple, Vittal, Bantwal Taluk.
The Vittal branch has been serving farmer grower members for several decades from its existing premises built in 1986 on 76 cents of land, with a total plinth area of 19,188 square feet. Over the years, the branch has faced increasing challenges due to the narrow approach road and congestion in the area, resulting in operational difficulties and inconvenience to farmer members visiting the branch.
To address these issues and facilitate smoother procurement and handling of arecanut, cocoa, pepper and other produce from farmer members, Campco has acquired 91 cents of land within Vittal city limits at Vittal Kasaba Village, Bantwal Taluk in 2024. A new office-cum-godown building with an approximate built-up area of 30,000 square feet is proposed to be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore.
The upcoming facility is designed to provide improved accessibility and ample parking space, significantly enhancing convenience for farmer grower members and ensuring smoother operational activities.
The civil construction contract has been awarded to M/s Gaanvi Infra Projects, Vittal, and the project is expected to be completed within 18 months from the commencement of work.
The foundation stone will be laid by Dr K Prabhakar Bhat, president, Vivekananda Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Puttur. The programme will be graced by chief guests Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada, and Ashok Kumar Rai, MLA, Puttur.
The function was presided over by S. R. Sathishchandra, president, Campco. Other dignitaries expected present included Konkodi Padmanabha and A Kishore Kumar Kodgi, former presidents of Campco; Padmaraja Pattaje, vice president, Campco; Dr B.V.Sathyanarayana, managing director, Campco; and Karunakar Naithottu, president, Vittal Jilla Panchayat.
“Campco continues to remain committed to strengthening its infrastructure and improving service standards for its farmer grower members. The proposed new Vittal branch is a significant step in this direction, aimed at providing better accessibility, modern facilities, and a more member-friendly environment,” said the communication note.
