Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the procurement is aimed at protecting farmers from declining market prices and ensuring remunerative returns, particularly for pulse and oilseed growers.

Uttar Pradesh has received the largest allocation of Rs 3,992.57 crore for procurement of 4,66,000 metric tonnes (MT) of tur valued at Rs 3,937.70 crore and 6,250 MT of moong valued at Rs 54.87 crore.

Chouhan said the initiative will provide greater economic security to farmers while encouraging domestic production of pulses and oilseeds and supporting the country’s efforts towards self-reliance in pulses and edible oils.

The Minister also said procurement at designated centres will remain transparent, with payments to farmers being transferred directly into their bank accounts in a timely manner
