CG Foods faces FSSAI action over food safety violations

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated strict enforcement action and legal proceedings against packaged food manufacturer CG Foods India Pvt. Ltd. at its Roopangarh facility in Ajmer, Rajasthan, following grave food safety, licensing, and hygiene violations.
As per FSSAI statement, during an inspection conducted to verify manufacturing and hygienic compliance, regulatory officials discovered the unit re-processing floor-collected, broken noodles into bhujia products without heat treatment. The facility was also found using predated packaging dates on its products.
The regulator identified the unlicensed manufacturing of ‘Wai-Wai MaMa’ and ‘Wai-Wai MaMa Punte’ bhujia variants, constituting a direct violation of Section 31(1) of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006.
FSSAI added that in total, authorities seized over 32,107 kg of stock on-site, including loose broken noodles, alongside detaining 1,925 boxes of expired finished goods. Inspection officers also flagged multiple systemic hygiene and documentation deficiencies, including inadequate pest-control logs.
Multiple regulatory samples, including loose noodle material, both Veg Bhujia products, used cooking oil from the frying line, and ‘Wai-Wai Ready to Eat Noodles’, were collected for formal laboratory analysis.
FSSAI has directed CG Foods to immediately discontinue the production of its Veg Bhujia Namkeen products pending proper approvals. The regulator confirmed that further legal and administrative action will proceed based on lab analysis findings and inspection results under the FSS Act, 2006.
