The Chinese Authorities have claimed that Corona virus was detected from frozen seafood imported from India that led to sealing of the storage areas at the port. The virus was allegedly detected in the samples of frozen pomfret imported into China from India.
The detection was reported at Fuzhou port in Fujian province. This was the second detection claimed by the Chinese authorities after previous detection of virus in frozen cuttlefish packages. China had also suspended imports from an Indian company, consequently.
Similar infection of Corona virus was reported from imported frozen food from Germany, Russia and other countries including the US.
Reports from China say that a worker in a warehouse was found infected from Corona virus in Tianjin city near Beijing after handling the imported food.
The Chinese Centre for Disease Control had in October announced that it had isolated the active Covid virus on packs of imported fish, which was later linked to the outbreak in the city of Qingdao. Subsequently the Chinese Authorities have augmented the testing of samples of the imported food into the country.
Meanwhile an official with the Indian Marine Products Export Development Authority said that while efforts are made to ensure that exported food items remain safe, the measures of food safety were always looked into for food products exported from India under the aegis of Export Inspection Council of India.
