Cookme launches Smart Pack with direct access to spice quality reports

In a major push for transparency in the Indian spice market, legacy spice brand Cookme has introduced its new Smart Pack initiative that gives consumers direct access to batch-specific quality reports via QR codes. This move aims to reshape how spice quality is communicated and evaluated amid growing consumer demand for clearer information on ingredient sourcing, testing and standards.

With rising food consciousness, especially among Gen Z and urban shoppers, transparency is becoming a key purchase driver — extending beyond traditional markers such as colour, aroma and brand reputation. Cookme’s Smart Packs respond to this shift by enabling shoppers to instantly view detailed laboratory reports that outline testing parameters, results and compliance with quality benchmarks. These reports also explain what each test signifies, why it’s conducted, and whether the batch meets established standards.

Originating in 1846, Cookme is one of India’s oldest spice houses and has a long history of innovation, including holding a 14-year patent in 1983 for curry paste and pioneering powdered spices in the 1950s. The Smart Pack initiative builds on that legacy by prioritising fact-based quality disclosure over traditional marketing claims.

The company emphasises that spice quality is shaped not just at the factory but throughout the entire supply chain — from farm sourcing and handling to storage and testing — and believes consumers should consider value, price and quality based on verifiable data rather than assumptions.

As transparency becomes an emerging benchmark for trust in India’s food sector, Cookme’s Smart Packs signal a broader industry shift toward traceability and accountability. By making detailed testing information accessible to shoppers, the brand aims to set a new standard for spice quality assurance in retail.
