Copeland, a global provider of compression technologies and control solutions, has launched its ZF/ZFI 10–20HP scroll compressors, designed specifically for low-temperature cold chain applications across the food industry. The new product line aims to improve cooling performance, reduce operational costs and support sustainability goals in rapidly expanding cold chain networks across Asia.
Cold chain infrastructure plays a crucial role in maintaining food safety and quality while helping reduce food waste and meet rising global food demand. According to a report by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, refrigeration systems account for nearly 35 percent of total hydrofluorocarbon (HFC)-related cooling emissions in the region, highlighting the need for energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable cooling technologies.
The launch of the ZF/ZFI scroll compressor range reflects Copeland’s commitment to supporting the energy transition while strengthening cold chain infrastructure for the preservation of perishable food.
Speaking about the development, Tarun Singh, Senior Director – Cold Chain, APAC and IMEA at Copeland, said the company continues to leverage its decades of experience in refrigeration technology to deliver innovations that address industry challenges. The newly introduced compressors expand Copeland’s cold chain application coverage through an extended operating range, enhanced reliability and improved durability, helping businesses achieve higher efficiency and lower emissions.
Available in 10–20 HP models, the compressors operate efficiently across a temperature range of -45°C to 7°C, making them suitable for cold rooms, cold storage facilities, supermarkets, food retail outlets and light industrial refrigeration systems.
The compressors incorporate Copeland’s dual-compliant scroll technology to improve reliability and lubrication of moving parts while reducing maintenance requirements. The system also features enhanced vapor injection (EVI) technology to boost cooling performance and energy efficiency, especially under demanding operating conditions.
Additionally, the compressors support future-ready refrigerants, including hydrofluorocarbons and low-global-warming hydrofluoroolefins such as R-448A and R-449A, helping businesses align with sustainability targets.
Copeland has also introduced an integrated solution with advanced electronics, offering features such as discharge temperature protection, motor protection, oil monitoring and smart Bluetooth connectivity for easier commissioning and troubleshooting through mobile devices.
With compact and low-noise design, the new compressors are well suited for urban installations where space and noise constraints are key considerations, further strengthening cold chain efficiency and sustainability across the region.
