CSIR-CFTRI has awarded PhDs to its six students for their in-depth research efforts in food sciences

CSIR-CFTRI (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research- Central Institute of Food Technological Research Institute) has awarded six PhDs to its students for their in-depth research efforts in food sciences. The doctorates were awarded this between July 1 to 30 September, from the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR).

The six students are Sangeetha Sher Bahadur Singh whose thesis title was Trans-Ferulic acid and sugar beet pulp-phenolic extract as a potential activator of AMPK: Molecular mechanism and implications in amelioration of hyperglycemia. Her supervisor was Dr Neelakanteshwara Patil K, Principal Scientist, Department of Microbiology & Fermentation Technology, CFTRI. She received her PhD on July 25, 2024.

The second student was Sruthi P with her thesis titled as Studies on Phenolic compounds from cashew nut (Anacardium occidentale L.) test and its value addition worked under her supervisor Dr M Madhava Naidu, chief scientist, Department of Plantation products, Species and Flavour Technology, CFTRI. He was awarded the doctorate degree on August 23, 2024.

The third student was Raghavakumari Ramesh Sunagar and the title of the thesis: Impact of milling on phenolic profiles of brown top millet and its antidiabetic potential. Her supervisor was Dr Y N Sreerama, senior principal scientist, Department of Grain Science and Technology, CFTRI. She received her doctorate on September 4, 2024.

The fourth student was Sandesh Suresh and the titles of his thesis was Production and characterisation of biodiesel from fish discards. His supervisor was Dr Tanaji Kudre, principal scientist, Department of Meat and Marine Science, CFTRI. He received the thesis on September 17, 2024.

The fifth student was Sreevathsan who thesis was titled Studies on ozonation for treatment of complex organic wastewaters. His supervisor was Dr Sandeep Mudliar, Chief Scientist, Department of Plant cell Biotechnology, CFTRI. He received his doctorate on September 17, 2024

The sixth doctorate awardee was Anusha who worked on the anti-aging potential of mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) protein-enriched fruit and vegetable-based products in in-vitro and in-vivo models. Her supervisor was Dr P S Negi, chief scientist, Department of Fruits and Vegetable Technology, CFTRI. She received her thesis on September 27, 2024.
