Customer demand for aseptic processing & packaging to pave way for market players

The demand for packaged food and beverages has improved drastically over the last few years, which in turn improved the demand for aseptic processing and packaging in the market. Growing urbanization in emerging countries and rise in the adoption of sustainable packaging and products drive the growth of the global aseptic processing market.

The technological advancements and automation in aseptic processing are expected to propel the global aseptic processing market growth. Market players are adopting several strategies for developing new technologies, product development, and enhancing product offerings.

Governments of all the nations across the globe have improved their investments and spending on healthcare sectors. Increase in demand for aseptic processing from the pharmaceutical and healthcare industry is expected to boost the market demand in the next few years. In addition, the growing inclination of customers towards affordable packaging products aids the market growth. According to Allied Market Research, the global aseptic processing market is anticipated to grow at a significant CAGR of 6.3% from 2021 to 2030.

Market players are adopting strategic collaboration to improve their product offerings to consumers. Arla Foods, Saudi Arabia, has selected SIG's ultra-modern CFA 812 filling machine for offering its products with improved shelf life in the Middle East region. The installation of this food filling machine offers extraordinary format, capacity, product, and design versatility to the company. It also provides the company with exceptional speed in the manufacturing process. It is the first time that Arla Foods of Saudi Arabia has developed and filled its portfolio in aseptic carton packaged foods locally with the food filling technology of SIG.

For food and beverages companies, flexibility and efficiency of filling setup play a vital role in the production, which helps the manufacturers to continue their offerings in the market with evolving volume, format, and designs. The quick volume change feature of SIG's CFA 812 makes it a perfect fit to handle multiple products. Henrik Lilballe Hansen, vice president, and managing director of Arla Foods, Saudi Arabia, highlighted that selecting aseptic carton packs from SIG helps them to provide attractive, accessible, and environmentally friendly packaging solutions to their MENA customers and stand out in the market.

The pharmaceutical drugs and various medicinal and healthcare products must be sterile to avoid bare minimum possibilities of infection occurrence on their use or microbial degradation during their life. There is a shortage of sterilized drugs and injectables in the market.

Market players are focusing on strategic acquisitions and expansion of capabilities to improve the supply of sterile drugs and meet the growing market demand. Leading biopharmaceutical and global contract development and manufacturing organization announced the acquisition of Lyophilization Services of New England, Inc. back in 2021.

PCI aims to provide smaller and larger integrated molecule solutions for its commercial and clinical clients with the help of this new addition. LSNE has a great history of serving global medical device and biotechnology companies and has the expertise to scale lyophilization, which is a common manufacturing process used with injectable and biological therapies.

After this recent acquisition PCI is now adding three new machines of automated sterile fill-finish in its Melbourne and San Diego facilities. This automatic fill-finish machine from Cytiva can switch between fillings of different sterilised medication into syringes and vials. These machines accelerate the filling process of drugs with automation and without human intervention in sterile conditions.

Chief commercial officer, PCI Pharma Services, Tim Roberts, highlighted that addition of these modern machines in their key locations is a part of their global strategy to improve the company's sterile fill-finish capabilities, thus helping to ease the global shortage of sterile drugs production and packaging. He also added that the Cytiva technology allows PCI to provide its clients extra sterile fill-finish capabilities to assist their clinical development and production efforts and, as a result, bring vital treatments to market faster around the world.

Covid-19 Impact
Here, it’s worth mentioning that the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic disturbed the supply chain and halted the logistic services. This hampered the growth of the global aseptic processing market as the production activities across the globe have stopped in the initial days of the pandemic.

However, industries have started their operations with new rules and regulations as the world is getting back to normalcy. The market is expected to recoup soon with the technological advancements in aseptic processing and growing demand in food and beverages and the healthcare sector.
