Dabur signals potential price hikes as it aims to reaccelerate growth

Home-grown FMCG major Dabur India is indicating the possibility of price increases across some of its product categories as part of its strategy to sustain growth momentum amid evolving demand trends and input cost pressures, according to comments made by the company’s leadership during a post-earnings investor interaction.

While the company has seen a combination of both price and volume contributing to growth in the current fiscal, Dabur’s Chief Executive Officer Mohit Malhotra noted that pricing actions taken in the earlier part of the year — including hikes before September — are expected to have a rollover impact into the coming year. However, he stressed that the focus remains on driving volume-led expansion, supported by favorable GST tailwinds that could boost consumption.

The remarks come at a time when many FMCG players across India are navigating a delicate balance between managing cost inflation and maintaining consumer demand. With global commodity prices and logistics costs still in flux, companies are weighing the benefits of price adjustments against the risk of slowing off-take among value-sensitive buyers. Recent industry data indicates FMCG firms have been raising prices across categories — including oral care and personal care to shore up margins as demand recovery remains uneven.

Dabur’s proactive stance on pricing reflects this broader sector trend, even as the company works to strengthen operational efficiency and competitive positioning. Analysts say selective price increases aligned with consumer willingness and category dynamics — could help protect margins without significantly denting volumes, particularly in premium segments.

With the potential price actions in the coming months, Dabur aims to strike a balance between cost absorption and long-term volume growth, as it adapts to market realities and evolving consumer behaviours in India’s fast-moving consumer goods landscape.
