The Delhi Police have busted a racket involved in the supply of expired food products. During the operation, police seized approximately 2,900kg of food and dairy products and arrested one individual.
As per reports, the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police acted on a tip-off to raid a shop near the Kapashera Border. They discovered a large cache of expired food products, including dairy items, which were being sold at heavily discounted prices.
The reports added that close to 900kg of expired packaged food items including flour, semolina, poha, spices, peanut butter, and baby food supplements from various brands were recovered from the premises.
Furthermore, 2,000kg of dairy products, including curd and cheese, were seized and destroyed on-site in the presence of food safety officials. Several samples were collected for further laboratory analysis to determine the safety of the products.
Investigations remain underway to unearth the supply chain of the network that provided near-expiry and expired items to the shop owner. Initial findings indicate an organised network dealing in the illegal supply of outdated food products.
