FSSAI asks businesses to list chemicals, consumables for testing on GeM
Wednesday, 08 December, 2021, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Ashwani Maindola, New Delhi
The Indian food authority has stated that businesses involved in trade of chemicals, reagents, consumables for the purpose of testing and analysis of food products should list these products on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).

These products are procured by state food labs and FSSAI says that the listing would help the food analysts to select the desired grade to such articles.

The FSSAI has issued a notice in this regard asking the concerned vendors or suppliers to list such ‘articles’ on GeM.

“The concerned vendors/suppliers are hereby requested to kindly list their chemicals related to food testing and other consumables on GeM so as to facilitate purchase by State Food Testing Laboratories. In case, if the entire catalogue of consumables is made available on GeM along with the terms and conditions, it will help the analysts to select the chemicals of the desired grade and other consumables suiting the analytical requirements,” reads the FSSAI notice.

According to the FSSAI, with increase in the surveillance activities besides the regulatory activities across the country, there will be a good business opportunity for the vendors/suppliers of chemicals/reagents, consumables and so on and also it will allow for easy & faster procurement by the food labs once the vendors/suppliers register themselves on GeM.

FSSAI’s statement on the subject reads, “Government of India encourages the procurement of goods/commodities through Government e-Marketplace (GeM). On the same lines, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is also ensuring that procurement of laboratory chemicals/glassware/reagents and other consumables by State Food Testing Laboratories (SFTLs) is done only through GeM.”
