The National Food Regulator has asked the States to strictly enforce removal of beverage drinks selling in guise of 'ORS' from the retail markets under their jurisdiction.
Recently, FSSAI withdrew an approval to the businesses with respect to the use of word 'ORS' on labels of their beverage products like fruit based beverages, ready to serve drinks, or any other beverage.
As per reports, the FSSAI has written to the States to even check e-commerce platforms and ask them to take down any such beverage using deceptive label having ORS written on it.
The letter was sent across the States as FSSAI received reports that the companies continue to violate its order of removal of word 'ORS' and selling such beverages having ORS as suffix or prefix on the label of the product.
ORS stands for Oral Rehydration Solution. It is a formula developed by the WHO and given to individuals on medical recommendation, who are experiencing mild to moderate dehydration due to some medical condition or illness.
