The
Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has awarded
Farrukhabad Jail, 5-star rating for food quality. The food is served to
over 1000 inmates lodged in the District Jail in Fatehgarh.
This achievement by the jail, coincides with the occasion of completing 75 years of the country’s Independence.
The
criteria by which FSSAI judged the jail include hygiene, procurement of
quality food products from FSSAI-certified outlets, as well as
cleanliness of members of the staff.
The
jail has shifted from conventional methods of cooking to using machines
for preparing rotis, kneading dough and chopping vegetables.
Ashwin
Bhadri, CEO, Equinox Labs, said, "It is a highly appreciable
achievement by the Farrukhabad Jail. Access to clean and hygienic food
is the basic human right, and jail inmates should not be devoid of it.
The Farrukhabad Jail's modernistic approach to food preparation by
deploying technology is commendable. Providing safe and hygienic foods
should be the common goal of institutions in all the sectors. It is high
time we consider food safety and hygiene a major and important aspect
of our lives."
The
certificate awarded to the jail by FSSAI, which is valid until August
2024, reads, “District Jail Fatehgarh, Farrukhabad is certified as Eat
