Ashwani Maindola, New Delhi
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has launched a regulatory action following an ammonia gas leakage incident at M/s St. Peter's Paul Seafoods Exports Pvt. Ltd. in Tiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.

According to an official report shared by FSSAI, the leak occurred on June 21, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM, endangering around 270 metric tonnes (MT) of processed and unprocessed seafood stored at the facility.

“In a coordinated joint effort with district and state authorities, a Central Food Safety Officer was immediately deployed to conduct a same-day inspection and collect surveillance samples for laboratory analysis,” reads the FSSAI statement.

The enforcement drive successfully identified approximately 13 MT of contaminated seafood products slated for disposal.

Furthermore, according to the FSSAI, authorities tracked down and intercepted vehicles that were transporting products away from the premises immediately after the incident. This seafood has now been safely secured in cold storage facilities.

FSSAI noted that additional regulatory actions will be initiated as soon as the formal laboratory test results are finalised.
