The FSSAI has re-operationalised the FSS-Licensing and Registration of Food Business –Amendment Regulations 2021 related to e-commerce businesses amongst others. The food authority has issued an order in this regard.
These regulations contain amendment in respect of licensing and registration of e-commerce food businesses, documents to be enclosed for new application for licence to state/Central licensing authority for restaurant, condition of licence for restaurant, general requirements on hygienic and sanitary practices to be followed by food businesses applying for licence, establishment of small slaughter house and hygienic & manufacturing practices to be followed by food businesses engaged in catering.
The draft was notified for public comment in November 2020.
According to FSSAI, the process of finalisation is going on and since the notification of the final amendment regulation is likely to take some time, it has been decided to re-operationalise these regulations with effect from May 11, 2023, to ensure food safety and fair practices in the food business operations.
“The FBOs shall follow these regulations and the enforcement of these regulations shall commence only after the final regulations are notified in the gazette of India,” reads the order issued by the FSSAI while adding that for certain provisions like hygiene etc. improvement notices can be served if required.
