FSSAI suspends Rehaan Healthcare manufacturing license

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the manufacturing license of Rehaan Healthcare with immediate effect, following an inspection that revealed severe food safety violations and unsanitary conditions at its health supplements and nutraceutical manufacturing unit.
The regulator has directed the company to immediately halt all food business operations until all deficiencies are rectified and compliance is verified by the competent authority.
The FSSAI in a statement has informed that during a recent inspection of the facility, which manufactures high-risk syrup-based products including Digestive Syrup and Multivitamin Syrup, the food safety regulator awarded the unit an overall compliance score of just 12%, placing it firmly in the "Non-Compliance" category.
Inspections uncovered severe hygiene and structural failures across the production floor, including, 'accumulation of filth and sludge directly under manufacturing tanks, active pest infestations, including spider webs, mould growth, flies, and live insects, exposed food waste within active manufacturing areas, posing a severe risk of contamination and disorganised storage of raw materials and poor housekeeping practices.
Further, inspectors also documented major infrastructural shortcomings, such as insufficient workspace, damaged facility structures, inadequate ventilation and lighting, and the absence of a valid drinking water test report.
Emphasising the severity of the findings, the FSSAI noted that health supplements and nutraceuticals are widely consumed by children and vulnerable populations. Consequently, the prevailing unhygienic conditions and total failure of internal safety controls pose a serious and imminent threat to public health.
The apex regulator warned that any breach of the suspension order or continued unauthorised manufacturing will invite strict legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
“The FBO has been directed to immediately cease all food business activities until all deficiencies are rectified and compliance is verified by the Competent Authority. Any violation of this order shall invite appropriate legal action under the FSS Act, 2006,” reads FSSAI statement.
