Godavari Biorefineries Limited (GBL) inaugurated its upgraded state-of-the-art set-up zero liquid discharge (ZLD) facility at its plant in Sakarwadi, Maharashtra. To attain ZLD, effluents are subjected to biological treatment, ultra-filtration, reverse osmosis, multiple evaporation techniques and agitated thin film drying to enable purification and removal of contamination at various stages.
The company’s recycling unit, comprising intricate systems like ultra-filtration and two-stage RO, helps in reusing the recycled water back to process, for further reclamation of good water, making the Sakarwadi site’s continuous compliance to ZLD.
With the inauguration of the new facility, the plant will be compliant to the stringent future environmental norms and guidelines to be applicable.
The ZLD facility will enable the company’s growth strategy for its manufacturing facility, while ensuring focus on sustainability and environment protection. The set-up shall help meet new norms that have been under discussion which may be implemented in future. Also, any site expansion that may be done in due course after receiving required statutory approvals too shall benefit from the set-up.
The Sakarwadi unit recently participated and won the Platinum Award in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) category Excellence Award 2019 in Envosafe – The EHS Excellence Award, 2019, championed by deputy director, Industrial Safety and Health (DISH), Ahmednagar, in coordination with Mutual Aid Response Group (MARG).
GBL received a special note of appreciation from Swapnil Deshmukh, deputy director of Safety and Health Department, Ahmednagar, for the site’s good upkeep and safe practices focussed on EHS in a chemical plant.
Samir Somaiya, chairman and managing director, GBL, said, “Our commitment is to provide sustainable solutions for our stakeholders and the communities we operate in. The investment in the ZLD facility adds one more milestone towards our effort to uphold a greener economy.”
The Sakarwadi site has ICC Responsible Care Logo certification, that helps meet customer expectations and ensures the deliverance of the highest quality products and production standards in line with ISO 9001: 2015 and RC 14001:2015 guidelines.
