Govt allows exports of eggs, rice, sugar, onions and potatoes to Maldives

The government has allowed exports of essential commodities to the Maldives for FY 2026-27. These include eggs, rice, sugar, onions, and potatoes, among others. The export is part of a bilateral agreement between the two sides regarding the supply of crucial items for the island nation.
As per the DGFT notification, the government permits the export of 448,913,750 eggs, 22,589 MT potatoes, 37,537 MT onions, 230,429 MT rice, 114,621 MT wheat flour, 67,719 MT sugar, and 350 MT dal, subject to specific conditions. The notification added that these exports shall be exempt from any existing or future restrictions during FY 2026-27.
Shipping is permitted only through the Mundra, Tuticorin, Nhava Sheva, Kandla and Visakhapatnam seaports along with ICD Tughlakabad.
Furthermore, the export of eggs shall require an official health certificate issued by the Export Inspection Council (EIC), conforming to Codex standards as required by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority.
