The Government of India, through the Department of Fisheries under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, has approved a comprehensive package worth Rs 2,416.92 crore for the development of pisciculture and allied infrastructure in the State of Andhra Pradesh under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY). This approval follows earlier investments envisaged under the scheme, which had earmarked a total investment of Rs 2,405 crore for the state, including a central allocation of Rs 850 crore.
Of the newly approved outlay, Rs 569.86 crore will be contributed by the Centre, of which Rs 482.55 crore has already been released as the central share to support the implementation of key infrastructure projects across Andhra Pradesh. The state government has reported that the funding will be utilised for a range of activities aimed at strengthening the fishery value chain, boosting production, enhancing quality and improving market linkages for fish producers.
Approved activities under PMMSY include the establishment of hatcheries, biofloc ponds, seed stocking facilities, Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS) units, ice plants, feed mills and diagnostic laboratories. These investments are expected to significantly strengthen both fresh water and brackish water fish production infrastructure while improving post-harvest handling and processing capabilities across districts in the state.
Detailed district-wise sanctioned projects and implementation progress have been outlined in the official release, reflecting a strategic effort to decentralise pisciculture development and promote sustainable aquaculture growth at local levels.
The expanded infrastructure investment under PMMSY is part of the Government’s broader focus on enhancing fisheries productivity, increasing rural incomes and ensuring food security through modern, resilient aquaculture systems.
