The Central Government has initiated a comprehensive consultation process for the proposed Pesticides Management Bill, 2026, aimed at modernising India's pesticide regulatory framework in line with current requirements and the provisions of the Jan Vishwas Act. Drafted by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, the Bill seeks to strengthen pesticide management and governance across the country.

The draft legislation was circulated to all Central Ministries, Departments, and State and Union Territory Governments on December 30, 2025, for their comments. It was subsequently placed in the public domain on January 7, 2026, inviting feedback from the general public and key stakeholders, including pesticide manufacturers, dealers, and retailers.

The government has received a large number of suggestions and observations from State and UT Governments, Central Ministries and Departments, pesticide manufacturers' associations, pesticide dealers, individual manufacturers, farmers, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and other stakeholders. The feedback covers a wide range of issues related to pesticide management and regulation, including provisions concerning data protection, which will be considered as part of the legislative process.
