HC notice to HP Food Safety dept on sampling and testing of food products

The Himachal High Court has sought answers from the State Food Safety department on sampling and testing of food products and issued a notice in this regard.
As per reports, taking cognisance of the issues related to food safety and sampling of the food products for lab analysis, a division bench of the Himachal HC has issued the notice to the State Government while hearing a PIL on the subject.
The PIL was filed regarding questions on the adequacy and transparency of the food sample testing in Himachal Pradesh.
During the hearing, the court was also apprised with the details of the collected samples and tests conducted subsequently at the laboratories in Kandaghat.
The State Government, representing through its counsel, has sought time for submission of the comprehensive report on the matter including details of food safety test reports placed in public domain, and whether the number of samples collected is proportional to the population of the state and districts from where the samples were collected.
The reports added that the HC has directed the State Government to submit the report with requisite information by March 23.
