Healthy snack brand Mumum Co raises $5,00,000 in angel funding round

Mumbai-based children’s snack foods company The Mumum Co, co-founded by Farah Nathani Menzies and Shreya Lamba, recently raised $5,00,000 in an angel round of funding. The investment was led by Nisa Godrej, executive chairman, Godrej Consumer Products Ltd, and Siddharth Parekh and Sumeet Nindrajog, co-founders, Paragon Partners. The funding round will be used for expansion in key metros and Tier-II cities, marketing, hiring and launching new and novel products in the healthy snack category for children.

As two mothers, Menzies and Lamba struggled to find healthy alternatives for their own children. They began to read labels and nutrition tables in detail and discovered a whole host of foods masquerading as healthy yet containing artificial flavours, added sugars, high levels of salt and preservatives. They spent a year on research and development (R&D) to create the right natural and wholesome recipes in snack-sized, single serving portions and launched The Mumum Co in September 2017.

Commenting on their first round of investment, Lamba, said, “When we became parents, we looked around for healthy and real, yet fun foods to feed our children. We soon realised that many parents were in the same boat as us, with very few trustworthy options available. The very, very, very real nature of The Mumum Co products comes from our conscious effort to feed our kids with 100 per cent natural and nourishing foods to help their little bodies grow better and faster – with no preservatives or additives!”

“We strongly believe The Mumum Co is well positioned to capture a significant share of the large, untapped healthy snacking market for kids in India. We are keen to support Menzies’ and Lamba’s passion and vision to build a high-quality health food brand which offers truly natural and trustworthy snacking options to mothers everywhere,” stated Parekh.

The Mumum Co has become a firm favourite amongst health-conscious parents keen to find nutritious, junk-free options for their children. The brand won the Kids Stop Press 2017 awards for Best Natural Food Brand and Best Mommy Venture within a few months of its launch.

Its 100 per cent natural, healthy snacks for children are currently found at prominent retail chains across Mumbai, Bengaluru and Pune, including Godrej Nature’s Basket, Foodhall and Apollo Chemist as well as select neighbourhood stores. The Mumum Co snacks are also available via key online channels such as Amazon and FirstCry, among others. The brand is set to expand to over eight more cities by the end of the year.
