iba 2009- the top bakery show in Düsseldorf

German Bakers' Confederation, jointly with GHM (Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH), has organised International Baking Academy - iba 2009 in Düsseldorf. The event will take place on October 3-9, 2009, at Trade Fair Centre, Düsseldorf, Germany.
During the invitation presentation ceremony in Mumbai, Heinrich Traublinger, vice-president, German Bakers' Confederation (GBC), said, "More than 600 Indian visitors participated in the last edition, we are expecting over 1000 trade visitors this year." The event is being held every three years. The last edition was held in Munich in 2006.
"Last week, I visited couple of bakeries in India and observed that the bakery & confectionery industry requires modern technology and quality raw material to grow swiftly. We at iba 2009 will provide a platform to Indian manufacturers to meet the global goods & service providers for bakery & confectioneries," Traublinger said.
GHM is a Germany-based event management organisation tied up with several companies to organise trade fairs and events across the globe. Dieter Dohr, CEO and president, GHM, "India's growth rate is about 9% per annum in which food processing industry, particularly bakery & confectionery industry is playing a vital role. We seek an excellent business opportunity at the event."
The annual growth rate of Indian bakery industry is estimated about 13% per year accounting for a total production of about 3 million tonnes per year. The total production includes 1.5 million tonnes of bread, 1.1 million tonnes of biscuits and 0.4 million tonnes of other products.
The organisers claim that the last edition in Munich attracted 979 exhibitors from 49 countries and 76,202 visitors from 114 countries. "This year, we are expecting over 1000 exhibitors around the globe," Dohr added. The seven-day event will include:
Exhibition:
The event will showcase ovens and accessories, bakery and pastry-making machinery, refrigeration, fermenting and air-conditioning technology and engineering, baking agents, raw materials and ingredients, partly-baked and finished products, ice-cream manufacturing, confectionery equipment and accessories, coffee machines and accessories, pasta and pizza manufacturing, cafés and patisseries, packaging machinery, devices and materials, baking accessories, cleaning and hygiene, laboratory and measuring equipment, IT hardware and software and other services.
Dohr said, "Over 60% of previous exhibitors have already registered for iba 2009. We are looking to make it 100%."
iba World Cup:
iba World Cup is an international competition among world class baking teams. Traublinger said, "Baking teams from 20 countries will compete in 2009 for iba World Cup. It will be an entirely special attraction for participants like trade visitors."
Training & Congress:
The organisers hahe also organised a training session on bakery & confectionery technology, marketing, product development, international food laws, food standards etc. "The event will have international experts for training. Due to recent food scams and current food safety & quality issues, we seek to arrange a congress on food safety & quality."
Plant visit:
According to the organisers, the bakery & confectionery plant visit in Düsseldorf will benefit international participants to be familiar with German products and state-of-the-art technology of the country.
