The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) western region has announced the establishment of a dedicated agro-food processing leadership team to drive strategic growth, innovation and collaboration in the region’s agro-food processing ecosystem. The initiative, launched as part of ICC’s efforts to strengthen industry participation and actionable engagement in the agro-food value chain, marks a significant push to align business innovation with on-ground sector needs.
Adesh Kumar, widely recognised in India’s food retail and FMCG sector as the “Masala Man,” has been appointed as chair of the newly formed committee. Kumar brings extensive experience from leadership roles spanning modern retail and food industry segments, including positions with major players such as Reliance Retail, Aditya Birla Retail, Spencer’s Retail and Food Bazaar. He currently serves as Director – Business Development & Innovation at Keya Foods International Pvt. Ltd.
Supporting the leadership structure, the committee’s co-chairs include Leelavathi Gupte, Founder of Vibrant India and a HoReCa consultant with experience across national and international food events, and Atul Marne, Co-convenor of KISAN, India’s largest agricultural exhibition, and Board Member & Secretary of the Institution of Maharashtra Agricultural Technologists Alumni Association, MPKV.
The new team aims to convert strategic discussions into tangible industry outcomes, foster collaboration among key stakeholders across agribusiness, food processing and allied sectors, and enhance Western India’s role in the broader national food processing landscape. The leadership group is expected to play a crucial role in developing frameworks that support innovation, inform policy engagement and catalyse growth opportunities for businesses operating at the intersection of agriculture and food processing.
Kumar’s appointment as chair comes at a pivotal moment, as India continues to prioritise value addition in agriculture and strengthen food processing networks to boost rural incomes and formalise supply chains. The leadership team’s efforts are anticipated to contribute meaningfully to regional industry development and emerging market trends within the agro-food sector.
