In a massive crackdown on substandard food, the Rajasthan Health Department has banned the sale, distribution, and display of 17 packaged food products, including ghee and spices.
The ban will remain in effect for two months. According to reports, the 17 packaged food products include 11 brands of ghee and one each of roasted chana, turmeric, kesar bati, sugar-boiled confectionery, and namkeen.
Samples of these products were taken for lab analysis, which found them unsafe for human consumption, consequently, orders for a statewide ban have been issued.
The State Food Safety Department has also issued an advisory in this regard, asking food businesses and shops not to stock, display, or sell the listed products during the ban period.
Reports added that of the 11 ghee samples, seven were manufactured in Haryana, two in Pali, and one each in Punjab and Jodhpur. Furthermore, several of the unsafe food products were linked to brands from other states.
Meanwhile, officials have stated that traders can seek a re-examination of the samples within the period allowed under the FSS Act. Authorities in the concerned states have also been informed regarding the failed samples to ensure action is taken against the original manufacturers.
