India and Argentina have taken a significant step to deepen cooperation in agricultural research and technology transfer by signing the ICAR–INTA Work Plan 2025–27. The agreement was formalised in New Delhi by Dr M.L. Jat, secretary, department of agricultural research and education (DARE) and director general of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and Mariano Augustin Caucino, Ambassador of Argentina to India.
The comprehensive work plan outlines a wide-ranging collaboration between ICAR and Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) to advance research, innovation and capacity building in priority agricultural domains. It seeks to jointly address challenges in natural resource management, sustainable agronomy, zero-tillage practices, mechanisation, micro-irrigation, fertigation, and crop and animal biotechnology, among other areas.
Under the framework, both countries will engage in germplasm exchange, structured training programmes, expert interactions and study visits to facilitate technology exchange and skill development. Planned activities include collaborations on greenhouse vegetable production, floriculture, temperate fruit cultivation, post-harvest physiology, functional food development, veterinary diagnostics, precision livestock farming and waste-to-wealth technologies.
The agreement also emphasises cooperation in oilseeds and pulses value chains, agricultural mechanisation—including zero-tillage and cotton harvesting machinery and horticulture value chain development through infrastructure and planting material exchanges. In plant and animal health, both sides will work on region-specific strategies for Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) elimination and share expertise in pest surveillance and management.
Officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to the longstanding scientific partnership and agreed to conduct annual review and monitoring to ensure effective implementation of the work plan. The initiative is expected to strengthen bilateral ties, drive innovation, and enhance productivity and sustainability in agriculture, benefiting farmers and researchers in both nations.
