India announces National Gopal Ratna Awards 2025 for dairy sector excellence

The National Gopal Ratna Awards (NGRA) 2025, among the highest honours in India’s livestock and dairy sector, have been announced by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying (MoFAHD). The awards will be conferred on 26 November during the National Milk Day celebrations.

This year’s cycle attracted 2,081 applications, signalling strong participation across farmer and cooperative segments. The awards cover three main categories: Best Dairy Farmer rearing indigenous cattle/buffalo breeds; Best Dairy Cooperative Society/Milk Producer Company/Dairy Farmer Producer Organization (FPO)/Milk Producer Company (MPC); and Best Artificial Insemination Technician (AIT).

In the Best Dairy Farmer category (non-North Eastern Region), the first-rank winner is Aravind Yashavant Patil from Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Second place went to Dr. Kankanala Krishna Reddy of Hyderabad, Telangana. Third equals Harshit Jhuria of Sikar, Rajasthan and Shraddha Satyawan Dhavan of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. In the North-Eastern/Himalayan region, winners include Vijay Lata (Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh) and Pradeep Pangariya (Champawat, Uttarakhand).

For the Best Dairy Cooperative/FPO/MPC category (non-NER), first place was secured by Meenan Gadi Ksheerolpadaka Sahakarana Sangham Ltd, Wayanad, Kerala. The second and third prizes went to Kunnamkattupathy Ksheerolpadaka Sahakarana Samgham, Palakkad, Kerala and Ghinoi Dugdh Utpadak Sahkari Samiti, Jaipur, Rajasthan. The third-rank in Tamil Nadu was awarded to TYSPL 37 Sendurai Milk Producers Cooperative Society Ltd, Ariyalur. In the NER/Himalayan category, the winner is Kulha Duud Udpadhak Sahkari Samiti, Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand.

Winners in the Best AIT category (non-NER) include Dillip Kumar Pradhan (Anugul, Odisha), Vikas Kumar (Hanumangarh, Rajasthan) and Anuradha Chakali (Nandyal, Andhra Pradesh). The NER/Himalayan winner is Deluwar Hasan (Barpeta, Assam).

Prizes for the first two categories include cash awards of ?5 lakh for first-rank, Rs 3 lakh for second-rank and Rs 2 lakh for third-rank, as well as an additional Rs 2 lakh special award for the NER/Himalayan winners. No cash prize is provided for the AIT category which receives a certificate and memento only.

Launched in December 2014 under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, the NGRA highlights scientific conservation and development of indigenous bovine breeds. Since 2021, these awards have recognised outstanding dairy farmers, cooperatives and technicians.

The 2025 awards reaffirm the government’s push to strengthen India’s dairy sector through recognition of excellence, incentivising high-quality indigenous breed rearing, cooperative growth and technical capability in artificial insemination.
