India, Netherlands strengthen agricultural co-operation

Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan held bilateral talks with Silvio Erkens, Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature of the Netherlands, in New Delhi on September 28, 2026, to review ongoing cooperation and explore new areas of collaboration in agriculture.
The discussions focused on enhancing agricultural productivity through modern technology, innovation and knowledge exchange. Both sides reviewed progress on the establishment of 25 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in the agriculture and horticulture sectors.
India and the Netherlands also agreed to explore cooperation in the seed sector through a work plan outlining key areas of collaboration and providing a framework for effective implementation.
Agricultural innovation was another key area of discussion, with both sides exploring potential avenues for cooperation, recognising the advancements made by India and the Netherlands in the sector.
The Dutch delegation included Marten van den Berg, Director General, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food Security and Nature, and Marisa Gerards, Ambassador of the Netherlands to India, among others.
The Indian delegation included Atish Chandra, Secretary, Dr M L Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), and senior officials from the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
