In a significant boost to India’s agricultural footprint, a major commercial agreement has been secured for the export of 5,000 tons of premium Indian Basmati rice to the United States. This deal is being hailed as a milestone in strengthening India-US agricultural trade relations and a testament to the surging global demand for Indian grains.
Shankar Thakkar, national secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), stated that this substantial export order reflects the international popularity of Indian Basmati’s unique aroma and superior grain quality.
"This agreement confirms the reliability of Indian Basmati rice, showcasing the consistent trust global buyers place in Indian exporters," Thakkar remarked.
The deal comes at a time when trade facilitation measures and favourable tariff structures have significantly enhanced the competitiveness of Indian agricultural products. Experts say that this commercial success is not just about volume, it is the result of rigorous quality control and traceability measures adopted by Indian exporters to meet stringent international requirements.
Thakkar added that three factors are creating favourable conditions for the export. These include strict adherence to global food safety and phytosanitary standards to ensure seamless market access, strengthening digital tracking to meet the rigorous demands of US regulators, and promoting responsible sourcing practices to appeal to high-value international consumers.
“Positive trade dialogue between India and the USA is expected to open new doors for agricultural exports in the near future. As exporters focus on sustainable practices, Indian Basmati is poised to further expand its presence in premium global markets,” said Thakkar.
