The India Poultry Alliance (IPA) has announced plans to invest Rs 300 crore in Bihar to strengthen poultry production and logistics infrastructure, with a key focus on ensuring steady supplies to the North-Eastern states. The investment is aimed at addressing long-standing supply challenges faced by the region due to limited local production and logistical constraints.
According to industry sources, the proposed investment will be deployed across breeder farms, hatcheries, feed facilities and cold-chain infrastructure in select districts of Bihar. The state’s strategic location and improving connectivity make it a preferred base for supplying poultry products to North-East India, where demand for eggs and broiler meat has been rising steadily.
IPA officials said the initiative is designed to create a reliable and cost-efficient supply ecosystem that can serve markets such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. At present, the North-East depends heavily on poultry supplies from distant production hubs, resulting in higher costs and periodic shortages, especially during monsoon months.
The Bihar project is also expected to generate significant employment opportunities, particularly in rural areas, by supporting contract farming, feed production and transport services. Farmers associated with the poultry value chain are likely to benefit from assured offtake and improved access to modern farming practices.
Industry experts noted that the investment comes at a time when poultry consumption is growing rapidly, driven by affordability, high protein content and changing dietary preferences. Strengthening production capacity closer to consumption centres is seen as crucial to maintaining price stability and improving food security.
IPA is working closely with the Bihar government to facilitate land allocation, approvals and infrastructure support. Once operational, the facilities are expected to play a pivotal role in reducing supply gaps and improving availability of poultry products across the North-Eastern region.
The move underscores the poultry industry’s increasing focus on regional capacity building and integrated supply chains to meet India’s evolving protein demand.
