Sula Vineyards, India’s largest and most awarded wine brand (and one of the world’s most sustainable wineries), has brought Kadu, India’s first wildlife wine, to Maharashtra. Pronounced Kaa-du, it is the country’s first wine for a cause - it is committed to supporting tiger conservation in the country.
Karan Vasani, senior vice-president and chief winemaker, Sula Vineyards, crafted Kadu from the choicest premium wine grapes to produce three beautiful easy drinking varietals. It is available in three variants – the Kadu Chenin Blanc has notes classifying as slightly sweet, floral and fruity, while connoisseurs preferring lush, medium bodied and peppery notes with subtle oak can opt for the Kadu Cabernet Shiraz. Kadu Shiraz Rosé is light, fruity and full of luscious berry flavours.
India is home to these glorious beasts through its many reserves. Over the years, decreasing habitat, increase in poaching, etc. have brought the numbers of India’s national animal to the verge of extinction.
Working towards protecting tigers and encouraging the cause of tiger conservation, Sula Vineyards has stirred up another change in the wine industry. With each bottle sold, Kadu will make a donation towards tiger conservation in the state.
To ensure the optimum end-use of the funds contributed, Sula Vineyards has collaborated with Sanctuary Nature Foundation designed to empower and support grassroots conservationists across India. The brand’s legacy in supporting such a noble cause reflects in the success of Mud on Boots, which supported tiger conservation in Karnataka.
Speaking on the launch, Rajeev Samant, founder and chief executive officer, Sula Vineyards, said, “It is imperative for businesses to realise their responsibility towards the environment.”
“As the pioneers of Indian wine, we want to contribute to the great work being done to protect tigers, in the way that we know best – creating fine wines. Kadu is homage to our love of wildlife conservation. And after Karnataka, we aim to support this noble cause in Maharashtra,” he added.
Bittu Sahgal, founder, Sanctuary Nature Foundation, said, “Sula Vineyards’ commitment to donate a percentage of proceeds from the sale of Kadu to Sanctuary's Mud on Boots Project has enabled incredible wildlife conservationists working on the ground in the Cauvery landscape of Karnataka. We now welcome its launch in Maharashtra, and look forward to impacting positive change at the grassroots level here too.”
The varietals are available in stores in Maharashtra in two different sizes - the 750ml bottle, priced at Rs 625, and the 375ml bottle, priced at Rs 350.
