Chirag Paswan, Minister for Food Processing Industries, has said that food processing industry will play a crucial role in the vision of making India a developed nation and the government is making infrastructure and ecosystem required for the same, which includes 41 Mega Food Parks and 398 cold chains.
He was speaking at an event in World Economic Forum at Davos.
The minister highlighted how the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model can play a crucial role in advancing this sector and through schemes like PMKSY and PMFME, micro and small enterprises are being empowered to drive India's growth story from the grassroots.
He said, "I feel the responsibility of my department that I've been given by the PM. This comes with a huge responsibility. India is a country which is based on agriculture, and we can play a crucial role in providing economic stability to our farmers. It is the aim of the PM to make India 'Viksit' by 2047, and I feel this sector will play a crucial role in this".
The minister also had a 'meaningful' discussion with Henrique Braun, COO of Coca Cola, on strengthening the food processing sector and promoting sustainable practices.
The minister informed that through food processing industries, India have done some more collaborations at the global level in the beverage sector.
In the beverage sector, AB InBev has announced an investment of about $250 million. In the next two to three years, they will invest about $250 million in the beverage sector in various states in India.
"These are the investments that we expect from the World Economic Forum. They will sign their MoUs in various states over time. These investments in the beverage sector will prove to be a milestone for India. This will also create employment and will also accelerate the economic development of the country," said Paswan.
