Meghalaya marked its debut at Aahar 2026, Asia’s premier food and hospitality trade show, showcasing the state’s rich portfolio of indigenous organic agricultural and artisanal products. Through its participation, the Government of Meghalaya aims to create stronger market linkages for local producers and entrepreneurs by connecting them directly with key players from the food and hospitality industry.
The event, being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, is co-hosted by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI). As a prominent B2B platform, Aahar provides an opportunity for producers, entrepreneurs, and food businesses to engage with buyers, distributors, and industry stakeholders from across the country and beyond.
While Meghalaya has been a regular participant at global food events such as World Food India, its presence at Aahar marks a strategic step towards expanding market access for the state’s emerging entrepreneurs and agricultural producers. The initiative also aims to strengthen their business capabilities by enabling them to interact with commercial buyers, branding specialists, and packaging companies to enhance product value and scalability.
The Meghalaya Pavilion at the exhibition was inaugurated by Sampath Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Community & Rural Development Department and Resident Commissioner. During the inauguration, Kumar highlighted the importance of such platforms in promoting local innovation and entrepreneurship. He also acknowledged the initiatives launched by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, including the Prime incubation programme and the Meghalaya State Agriculture Marketing Board (MEGAMB), which support local entrepreneurs in taking their products to wider markets.
“These events are extremely beneficial for entrepreneurs as they help connect our culture and values with the rest of the world,” Kumar said while congratulating the young entrepreneurs representing the state.
The pavilion has already attracted significant interest, recording a footfall of over 1,500 visitors.
The showcase features Meghalaya’s premium agricultural and artisanal products, including organic spices such as Lakadong turmeric, black pepper, and organic ginger, along with millets and native wild honey. Fresh horticultural produce like strawberries, oranges, and pineapples is also on display, alongside value-added products including natural juices, lemongrass tea, and pickles.
Supported by initiatives from the Directorate of Food Processing (DoFP), Prime Meghalaya, Megnolia, and other state departments, the pavilion highlights the region’s growing potential in the food processing and organic agriculture sectors.
