The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has launched a series of rural development initiatives in Haryana aimed at empowering women farmers, strengthening farmer producer organisations (FPOs), improving value-addition capacity and promoting climate-resilient infrastructure.
The initiatives were inaugurated by NABARD Chairman Dr Shaji K.V. during visits to Kaithal and Karnal districts recently. The programmes are designed to support women-led enterprises, diversify livelihood opportunities and promote sustainable rural development in the state.
In Pharal village of Kaithal district, Dr Shaji laid the foundation stone for the Saras Dhara Milk Processing Unit and inaugurated the Viksit FPO Mustard Oil Processing Unit along with its sales outlet. The facility is expected to enhance value addition for local agricultural produce and strengthen the income potential of farmer collectives.
NABARD also organised a Credit Outreach Programme in the village to strengthen financial linkages for rural enterprises. The event brought together banks, implementing agencies, FPO representatives and beneficiaries to facilitate easier access to credit. During the programme, sanction letters and cheques were distributed to members of Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) as well as to Kharkhoda Block Organic FPO and Jind Kisan Jan Nirman FPO, both promoted under the Government of India’s Central Sector Scheme.
Additionally, a rainwater harvesting recharge well constructed at the Government Senior Secondary School in Pharal was formally handed over to the community to support water conservation and sustainable resource management.
In Karnal district’s Manglora village, the NABARD Chairman inaugurated a dairy processing unit for Bilona ghee production promoted by the women-led FPO Haryana Atulya Nari Shakti (HANS). He also interacted with women members and beneficiaries involved in the initiative. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shaji noted that Haryana has emerged as a strong example of rural transformation driven by farmer collectives and women entrepreneurs. He highlighted that NABARD has been promoting women-led FPOs in the state for more than a decade, mobilising nearly 13,000 women into such organisations.
During the financial year 2025-26, NABARD recorded Rs 30,050 crore in disbursements through refinance and direct finance in Haryana. This included Rs 14,779 crore in refinance, Rs 13,660 crore in direct lending, and Rs 1,612 crore released under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) to support rural infrastructure projects.
The event also saw participation from senior officials of banks, development institutions, research organisations, farmers and women entrepreneurs. NABARD officials said the initiatives will further strengthen Haryana’s agricultural ecosystem while promoting inclusive and sustainable rural growth.
