Nara BKC has joined hands with the Swades Foundation to celebrate Songkran, the Thai new year and water festival, for a cause. Until April 30, 2019, the proceeds from every order of the restaurant’s signature Butterfly Ice Tea, Sakoo Piek and a bottle of Qua water will go to the Swades Foundation’s water and sanitation vertical.

They will be used for the construction of drinking water facilities with water purifiers, hand wash stations and separate toilets for boys and girls at RZP schools in Goregaon hamlet of Mangaon block, Raigad district, Maharashtra.

While lunch will be served between noon and 4pm, dinner will be served between 7pm and 1am. Patrons can follow up their meals with Sakoo Piek, a Thai dessert comprising coconut ice cream on a bed of fresh sago pearls and water chestnuts and garnished with coconut sauce and shreds.

Songkran - the beginning of the New Year in Thailand - falls the day the sun changes position in the zodiac. On this day, water is deemed to be a holy element, signifying the spiritual cleansing, and believed to bless individuals with fortune and happiness.

Water is celebrated in Thailand in the summer month of April through splashing water on friends and family and celebrating the spirit of Songkran. Quite possibly the most unique New Year in the world, Songkran has now developed into kingdom-wide water fights, occurring in April all over Thailand.

Given the importance of water and lack of sanitation in India, Nara BKC is celebrating this festival by addressing this issue and equipping drought areas in the state and empowering them with potable water through the month of April by donating proceeds from select menu items and part of their delivery sales to the cause.

On this note, Karyna Bajaj, executive director, Ka Hospitality, said, “With such occasions we are hopeful to add value and do our bit for the society while also celebrating simultaneously.”

“Our association with the Swades Foundation has been a long-standing one, and we are thankful to them for diligently scouting affected areas of need and providing them with necessities,” she added.

“It is thoughtful of Nara to donate their proceeds from the Songkran festival to the Swades Foundation second year in a row,” said Zarina Screwvala, co-founder, Swades Foundation.

“Last year, their contribution helped us in providing access to drinking water in 23 rural households, and this year, they are supporting one school with complete water and sanitation infrastructure in our rural geography,” she added.

“It is always a pleasure to have continued support from believers like Nara towards rural empowerment,” said Screwvala.

After joining forces with the Swades Foundation last year, Nara BKC aided in providing clean potable water to 23 households for a full year, also providing facilities to harvest rainwater.
