National Turmeric Board of India initiated; to improve value chain & export

The National Turmeric Board of India has been initiated on Tuesday by Union Minister for Commerce and Industries Piyush Goyal.
The Board was manifested for improving the entire value chain of turmeric and augmenting its quality & export.
Goyal said, "The main objectives of the Board include development of new varieties, value addition & processing for export purpose, increasing awareness about health benefits of turmeric, market research, and helping farmers in increasing quality yield."
Further, the Board, headquartered in Nizamabad, Telangana, will help in industrial use of turmeric including medicinal use.
According to the local farmers, it has been a long pending demand of turmeric farmers of Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to set up a National Board for Turmeric for specialised research and development for improving entire value chain and establishing forward and backward linkages.
The Board will benefit turmeric farmers of 20 States.
According to an estimate, turmeric crop is grown on 3.24 lakh hectare area while 11.61 lakh tonne yield is produced in India, which is 3/4 of the world production.
