Nestlé S.A. has completed the sale of its remaining 40% stake in Herta Foods to Spanish food company Casa Tarradellas, bringing an end to the joint venture originally formed in 2019. The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. This step marks the final chapter in Nestlé’s involvement with Herta’s packaged meat and charcuterie business, as the Swiss food giant shifts focus toward strategic growth areas.
The sale concludes the partnership between Nestlé and Casa Tarradellas, under which the latter now holds full ownership of Herta Foods. This move aligns with Nestlé’s broader portfolio realignment under its new leadership, part of a strategic shift away from traditional meat-based offerings in favour of healthier nutrition and plant-based products. The Herta charcuterie brand, known for cold cuts and meat-based products sold across Europe, had been under strategic review as it no longer fit within Nestlé’s long-term focus on wellness and growth-oriented categories.
Nestlé has, over recent years, been accelerating its transformation into a company centred on nutrition, health, and wellness. The divestment of Herta is consistent with this direction, freeing up resources to invest in higher-growth segments such as plant-based foods, vitamins, and water businesses.
The conclusion of this transaction is expected to provide Casa Tarradellas with full operational control over Herta’s product lines, potentially enabling more targeted regional strategies for the charcuterie business. Casa Tarradellas, a family-owned food company with a strong presence in Spain and Europe, will now steer the brand independently as it continues to serve consumers across key markets.
This divestiture highlights Nestlé’s ongoing commitment to reshaping its global portfolio in line with evolving consumer preferences and sustainable growth priorities.
