The apex food regulator has reviewed its earlier order regarding the timeline for compliance of the FSS Regulations and now allows 365 days to food businesses as transition period for the compliance.
During the recently held 48th Food Authority Meeting, senior officials discussed policy issues related to the timeline for compliance with the FSS Regulations and after deliberations, the authority has extended the transition period from six months to one year.
"Amendments relating to the FSS (Labelling and Display) Regulations, as well as any changes in labelling requirements specified in other Food Safety and Standards Regulations, shall come into force on 1st July, subject to a minimum transition period of 365 days from the date of notification," reads the order issued by the FSSAI.
The order added that in emergency situations, the matter of implementation or enforcement may be decided on a case-by-case basis.
This order supersedes the order dated January 3, 2025, concerning the decision taken at the 45th Food Authority Meeting regarding the timeline for compliance with amendments to labelling provisions, wherein six months were given to the food businesses for transition or compliance with the amended food regulations.
In the said order, the date of enforcement was set as July 1 and 180 days were prescribed for transition from the date of notification.
