Poshn sees agri transforming with tech to boost productivity, efficiency & transparency

Poshn, a platform solving complex problems in the B2B food supply chain, sees Indian agricultural sector undergoing massive transformation, driven by a combination of advanced technologies that collectively uplift productivity, efficiency and transparency.

While no single technology can single-handedly revolutionise the industry, a blend of innovations is significantly enhancing growth and sustainability, according to Shashank Singh, co-founder, Poshn.

"Drones are increasingly being used for fertilisation, pesticide spraying, and crop health monitoring, covering large fields in a short time and enhancing precision farming to reduce input costs and improve yields. AI (artificial intelligence) is enabling farmers to identify the best-suited crops for specific soil types and climatic conditions, analysing soil health, predicting weather patterns, and suggesting optimal sowing times to improve efficiency and resource utilisation," he added.

"Real-time tracking of crops and farm produce is now possible through QR codes linked to blockchain-based systems, ensuring transparency in the supply chain and allowing consumers and businesses to verify the authenticity, origin, and quality of agricultural products," Singh told FnB News.

Access to credit has historically been a challenge for farmers, but agri-fintech platforms are bridging this gap by offering digital lending solutions, enabling farmers to secure loans without traditional collateral, thus supporting their working capital needs, he said.

"A significant portion of agricultural transactions was historically conducted in cash, leading to inefficiencies and lack of financial documentation, but with the widespread adoption of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in India, digital transactions are becoming the norm, ensuring better financial inclusion and transparency," said Singh.

Previously, invoices were either not generated or manually handled, leading to record-keeping inefficiencies, but digital invoicing systems are now streamlining financial documentation, improving cash flow management for farmers and agri-businesses. The agricultural supply chain has also faced challenges such as delays, wastage, and inefficiencies in transportation, but AI-driven logistics and route optimisation tools are minimising delays and ensuring farm produce reaches markets faster and fresher. "By integrating these technologies, the agricultural sector is becoming more productive, transparent, and financially viable, ultimately contributing to a stronger and more resilient food supply chain," said the co-founder of Poshn.
