The All-India Poultry Breeders Association (AIPBA), Pan India Breeders Association (PIBCC) and several state-level poultry associations have come together for a high-level industry meeting at Novotel Hotel, Shamshabad, Hyderabad, to discuss fluctuations in broiler chicken prices and key challenges facing the poultry sector.

The meeting brought together leading poultry industry representatives and stakeholders from across the country to deliberate on recent volatility in chicken prices, rising feed costs and concerns over the availability of feed ingredients, particularly maize, during the El Niño year.

Prominent participants included Bahadur Ali, Chairman, AIPBA; Vasanth Kumar Shetty, Convenor, PIBCC; Dr A. Tirupathi Reddy, President, TPBA; K.G. Anand, General Manager, Venkateshwara Hatcheries Pvt. Ltd.; Sameer Agarwal, Managing Director, Shalimar Group of Companies; Vignesh Soundararajan, Managing Director, Suguna Foods; and Dr Girish Kolwankar, Co-founder, Premium Chick Feeds Pvt. Ltd.

A key outcome of the meeting was the collective agreement among breeders across different zones to work towards coordinated pricing, with a minimum benchmark of Rs110 per kg for live chicken. Industry representatives observed that the recent decline in chicken prices was largely seasonal, driven by lower consumption during the festival period, and urged stakeholders to remain calm rather than react with panic.

The participants also stressed the need for policy interventions to address increasing feed costs, particularly through facilitating duty-free imports of non-genetically modified (non-GMO) maize. They further highlighted the importance of utilising the abundant availability of soybean in the domestic market to support feed requirements and manage input costs.

Reassuring the industry, the leaders maintained that the current price fluctuations were temporary and largely seasonal. They emphasised the importance of collective action and coordination among breeders to ensure greater market stability and address challenges affecting the sector.

As part of the way forward, the participating associations have resolved to meet government representatives and policymakers in New Delhi later next week to discuss these concerns and other pressing issues confronting the poultry industry. The proposed discussions aim to seek constructive policy measures, address rising input costs, improve market stability and create a supportive environment for the sustainable growth of India's poultry sector.
