Reliance Consumer Products (RCPL), the fast-moving consumer goods arm of Reliance Industries (RIL), has acquired Tamil Nadu-based health foods manufacturer Southern Health Foods (SHFPL) for Rs 156.42 crore. Following the transaction, SHFPL has become a wholly owned subsidiary of RCPL.
Founded in 2012, Southern Health Foods is best known for its flagship brand, Manna, which has built a strong reputation in the health-focused foods segment, particularly in Tamil Nadu and neighbouring southern markets. The company offers a wide range of products, including millet-based staples and mixes, health drinks, and baby food, catering to the rising demand for nutritious and traditional food options.
Commenting on the acquisition, T. Krishnakumar, director of RCPL, said that Manna is among the most trusted names in Tamil Nadu’s health foods market, with a noticeable presence in adjoining states. He noted that the brand’s portfolio of millet-based products and health offerings aligns well with RCPL’s long-term growth strategy in the nutrition and wellness category.
The acquisition marks a strategic move by RCPL to expand its footprint in the fast-growing millet-based foods segment, which has gained traction amid increasing consumer awareness around healthy eating and government-backed promotion of millets as a superfood. By integrating Southern Health Foods into its portfolio, RCPL aims to leverage its distribution strength and scale to accelerate brand growth and tap into wider national opportunities.
The deal further strengthens RCPL’s presence in the value-added foods category as it continues to build a diversified and competitive FMCG portfolio across India.
