Shaka Harry, a plant-based meat brand unveils its collaboration with BigBasket (A Tata Enterprise), India’s largest online supermarket. This collaboration will take the products across Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad and Gurgaon.
With the World Vegan day observed on November 1, Anoop Haridasan, co-founder, Shaka Harry, said, “The idea of compassion towards all living beings is an old one and deeply rooted in several cultures, including ours. But veganism goes beyond philosophy and tradition.A plant-based diet is healthier and less damaging to the environment. As more and more non-vegetarians consciously give up meat and turn vegan, meat alternatives can provide the same guilt-free, meat-eating experience without serious consequences on health and the planet. World Vegan Day is a symbol of positive changes that have a crucial impact on all living beings and their ecosystem. Nothing gets better than this.”
According to Haridasan, plant-based protein is becoming increasingly popular, particularly in areas where meat consumption is high, not only globally but in India as well. Consumers all around the world are catching on to this trend, and countries like India are following suit, changing their lifestyles to be more sustainable and consume food that is naturally sustainable.
“Our objective is to offer Shaka Harry as a healthy and tasty meat alternative and to deliver Shaka Harry products to every Indian household to begin a trial. The lockdown has increased the need for easy convenience to the products in the Indian households. This will help them to choose from a wide range of products without even stepping out of their comfort zone and will get them in their doorstep,” he said.
Seshu Kumar Tirumala, national head, Buying and Merchandising, BigBasket, said, “At BigBasket, we continually keep ourselves abreast of new trends and categories and introduce them to our customers. Plant-based meat is gaining popularity among Indians due to its health benefits and surprise flavours. We have a large assortment of plant based Ready to Eat foods range for customers looking to substitute/ supplement their meat intake with plant-based foods.”
